MudLOVE

April showers bring May flowers...and mud. But MudLOVE is turning mud into life for someone in need!

“Mud” may be in their name, but MudLOVE’s handmade pottery and jewelry are actually made of clay. Mud is actually a common moniker for clay in the wonderful world of pottery. The clay is 100% non-hazardous and all glazes and underglazes are lead-free and nontoxic.

Water=Life is their mission, because according to MudLOVE:

“...about 663 million people lack access to clean water. That’s more than twice the entire population of the United States! Water is the first step out of extreme poverty. It is estimated that women and children spend 140 million hours each day collecting water.”

Water is a basic necessity, yet so many do not have access to it. MudLOVE’s charity partner is Water for Good, and each product MudLOVE sells provides one week of clean water to someone in need. They focus on the Central African Republic, where the need is very high. Why?

“After the last few years of war and chaos, the Central African Republic is desperate for basic necessities and recognition by the rest of the global community. The United Nations ranks the C.A.R. 185th out of 187 countries on its Human Development Index. With an average life expectancy of only 50-52 years old….”

They do not only look for a short-term solution but focus on long-term growth in the form of well maintenance programs that teach villagers how to protect their water sources. Not only does this keep the water clean, but it also helps them learn how to finance repairs within the community.

So far, MudLOVE has given over $350,000 to Water for Good. Check out their map to see exactly what that impact looks like!
